LAUREN'S  STORY

“The first picture is of me when I was in full blown meth, heroin and fentanyl addiction. Yes, I know the picture is raw and gross but this is REAL ADDICTION. A look of me at my lowest. Recently, I celebrate 6 months clean and sober!  Today, I can wake up every morning and I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to make it through the day. Today, I don’t have to worry about if I’m going to end up in jail. Today, I’m holding down a full time job. Today, I’m living on my own for the first time in my life. Today, I’m beyond happy with my life and don’t want to die every day. Today, I don’t cry all day every day. HAPPY 6 MONTHS TO ME!”

Addiction & Recovery

What is Addiction?

Addiction is characterized by drug-seeking behavior and use that is compulsive, and very difficult to control on willpower alone, despite repeated harmful consequences. Many people don't understand why or how other people become addicted to drugs? They may mistakenly think that those who use drugs lack moral principles or willpower and that they could stop their drug use simply by choosing to.

In reality, addiction is a complex condition, and quitting usually takes more than good intentions or a strong will. Alcohol  and drugs change the brain in ways that make quitting hard, even for those who want to.

The great news is researchers know more than ever about how drugs affect the brain, and have found treatments that can help people recover from substance use challenges and lead happy and productive lives.

Jeff 9 Years Clean.jpg

NINE YEARS CLEAN

My name is Jeff. This year I turned 29 and I'm blessed to celebrate nine years free off Meth! I’m so glad my grandma lived to see the drastic change I made into becoming the man I am today. I have a fantastic career, I’m contemplating BUYING my first house, and I couldn’t be happier with the direction my life is headed! TO ANYONE STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION, KNOW THAT YOU CAN BEAT IT!!!

Feeling Alone in Recovery? You're Not.

Recovery can feel isolating, but it doesn't have to be. Negative thoughts can creep in when we're disconnected, making it harder to stay on track. Sharing the journey with others who understand is incredibly powerful.

Find Your Support System

Connecting with others who "get it" can make all the difference. Think about it: swapping stories, sharing tips, and knowing you're not alone builds real strength. Want to connect? Explore online recovery groups, local 12-step programs, or faith-based options. Swing by the Thryve Day Center in Willows—we'd love to see you! Grab coffee with a sober friend, or even just hit the gym—any connection can be a step forward. Because in recovery, connection is key.

Happy Couple
